RecAl: Members of the project from 9 European countries visited our facilities in Kilkis

In the framework of our participation in the European research project 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗔𝗹 (𝗥𝗲cycling technologies for 𝗖ircular 𝗔𝗹uminium), we had the pleasure to host representatives of the project partners from 9 European countries in our production facilities in Kilkis. The visit took place as part of the consortium’s third meeting, which took place in Thessaloniki from 26 to 28 March 2025.

Industrial tour & briefing on the production process

During the visit, RecAl members had the opportunity to learn about our production process and see ALUMIL's advanced infrastructure, including our state-of-the-art aluminium scrap sorting and processing unit. This unit incorporates cutting-edge technologies for aluminium recycling and is part of the company's circular economy approach.

The objectives of RecAl

RecAL is a major European Union research initiative funded with €10.6 million under the 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 program, aspiring to revolutionize aluminium recycling in Europe. Specifically, the project aims to:

  • Facilitate the alloying process without affecting the performance of the material.
  • Use digitization and robotics in sorting and dismantling.
  • Maximize the input of new recyclable materials.
  • Adapt production paradigms to unlock the full potential of secondary resources.
  • Enhance communication across all sectors of the aluminium industry.

ALUMIL, as one of the 19 partners of the RecAl project, is actively contributing to the development of advanced recycling technologies and digital solutions that promote the circular economy of aluminium. The company's expertise in aluminium recycling, through Loop 60 (and subsequently Loop 80)-the first certified recycled aluminium in Greece for architectural systems- renders it a partner with a key role in achieving the project's objectives.

The visit of representatives of RecAl partners strengthened the collaboration and highlighted ALUMIL's commitment to promoting sustainable practices and innovations in aluminium recycling.
